Bio

Cantor Ari Perelmuter was born and raised in Buenos Aires, Argentina and came to the US in 1999, hired by Temple Menorah in Redondo Beach. He lives in Southern California with his wife and their two boys.

He started his cantorial career at the early age of 13, getting his first paid position at the age of 17. A baritone, he studied voice with R. Mangione (Arg.) and W. Abbot (US), and chazzanut with A. Smirewicz, O. Fleischer and T. Horowitz amongst others in Argentina.

Later, Ari entered the Bet Asaf School of Chazzanim in Bs.As. dependant of the Latin American Rabbinical Seminar. He held several full-time positions in South America, including Sta. Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia and Buenos Aires, where he was the Chazzan Rishon at the C.I.R.A, the prominent downtown synagogue, before immigrating to the US.

Mr. Perelmuter was Cantor at Temple Menorah of Redondo Beach, California from 1999 to 2004 and at Temple Shalom of the South Bay in Hermosa Beach, California,  since its inception in 2005 to 2008.

Among his collaborations with Congregations throughout the US, Cantor Ari treasures travelling to Synagogue Emanu-El in Charleston, South Carolina to officiate High Holiday Services.

His performances include benefits for the Jewish Federation in the US and Argentina, appearances for Israeli Embassies, and other official events with local government representatives, in addition to concerts in four countries in South America and in the US.


Cantor Ari's broad repertoire ranges from traditional chazzanut to Yiddish, Ladino, and four other languages. TV broadcasts in Bolivia and Argentina include a full concert feature “live” on C.I.R.A. synagogue in 1998.


Ari’s voice is rich and full, with the ability of producing the contrasts of a rich cantorial tradition. Whether he is singing prayers or folk music, his “neshamah” is fully exposed.
